Happy 2020 to all of our members, past-sponsors, and supporters of Girls in Tech Vancouver! It’s hard to believe that 2020 is already here…
Here were some of the highlights for Girls in Tech Vancouver that happened in 2019:
- We participated at the Women in Tech Regatta in January as one of the representing non-profit organizations supporting women in tech in the city of Vancouver
- The Mix & Mingle event in March at Per Se Social to reconnect with our members
- The 2019 Hacking for Humanity hackathon in May at DevHub with support from our generous sponsors and volunteers
- The Creative Side of Tech Panel event in November at BrainStation
I often think, “We could have done this, or we could have done that.” Or, “We could have done more…” But isn’t it typical for us to compare and feel that what we bring to the table, isn’t enough? Upon reflection, I am really proud of our team for putting together such high quality events. If you have attended our events and have any feedback to offer (both on what we did well and on how can we improve), we’d love to hear from you! Our belief with our Girls in Tech chapter is that we strive for continuous improvement and continuous growth.
As one of the Managing Director (MD) part of the Girls in Tech global family, I also had the opportunity to attend the 2019 Girls in Tech global leadership retreat in Bali with other Managing Directors from around the world. This was an unforgettable experience for me to meet other like-minded women from around the globe that share the common passion of advancing women equality in tech and in other areas. I was most grateful in learning how other chapters operate and connecting with other MDs (they were all amazing and very impressive women!). It’s good to know that I am not alone trying to advance a cause and that others are also going through similar obstacles and have faced similar challenges. Women helping women is one of the most beautiful things to witness and experience. It was also most rewarding to simply relax in a beautiful environment such as Bali and to retreat and get away from the hustle and bustle of daily living. Thank you Girls in Tech global for providing this opportunity for all of the MDs to connect!

I look forward to how we will evolve the Girls in Tech Vancouver chapter in 2020 as we strive to increase membership engagement this year. We have recruited some new blood for the Management Team and they have already begun on planning out the Girls in Tech Vancouver Events Roadmap for 2020. I hope that we can share this schedule with our members shortly once details firm up and solidify. If you’d like to help shape the Girls in Tech Vancouver Events Roadmap please provide your feedback on key themes or goals by filling out a quick survey here. To stay up to date on current communications with our chapter, sign up to be a member here.
If your organization is interested in sponsoring us for upcoming events in 2020, please reach out as we are always in need of venue sponsors and other contributions to help keep our event costs affordable for our members. Have an idea and would love to partner with us? We’d love to hear from your organization! Contact us at [email protected].
Wishing you all a fruitful and healthy 2020!
